The Liverpool Connection

I'm greatly enjoying working with the www.improvisersnetwork.co.uk . Not because it fills the room with people or because of its commercial potential. The fun is in the systems and approaches of its slightly OTT man free improviser Phil Morton.

Phil refuses to tune his guitar and travels to sessions on the train with a suitcase and heavy bag full of leads and chess clocks. He is always looking for new systems to efficiently organise.... wow efficiency in musicians!

He approaches the whole thing from a completely different angle and sometimes that is what is need to break ruts and move things on. In a recent exchange he mentioned that UCLan often use 'parameters in composition' and that he would suggest instead using 'elements of engagement' ... But what could this mean? (tbc)
